IT’S BEEN A WHILE

20 Jul

HAVEN’T POSTED ANYTHING IN QUITE A WHILE, SORRY ABOUT THAT, BEEN A LATITUDE FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND.

WILL UPDATE MORE IN GREATER DETAIL, JUST NEED TO GET MY PHOTOS DEVELOPED. OVER THE WEEKEND, I SAW

GIRLS, YUCK, TOKYO POLICE CLUB, THE KISSAWAY TRAIL , FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE, CHIEF, SMASH AND GRAB, ROX, JAMIE LIDELL, MUMFORD AND SONS, TOM JONES, YEASAYER, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, DIRTY PROJECTORS, JONSI,  THE CORAL, GRIZZLY BEAR, MIDLAKE. I KNOW THATS NOT MANY, BUT ON SATURDAY I WAS TOO DEHYDRATED AND HAD TO SPEND THE DAY RESTING. Pleased with the bands I did see, as I got to see everyone I wanted.

So it’s that time of year again where festivals start to occur every weekend from now until September. S U M M E R is finally here and over here in the UK we have been blessed with somewhat lovely weather so far. Hopefully this is not the only sun we are going to get for the summer. I have been lucky enough to help out at the Isle of Wight festival this even though I applied so late. The Isle of Wight happens next weekend and I’m very excited. Unfortunately I won’t get to see much of JAY-Z , although I am working in the arena when he’s on so hopefully I’ll get to hear him.

Then in a month and a couple of weeks it’s the one and only L A T I T U D E  F E S T I V A L . Last year’s line up was good but this year’s is exceptional, one of the best Latitude’s ever had , especially in the Word tent with the likes of the XX, Grizzly Bear, Jonsi, the National, and Yeasayer all playing that stage. Other bands and acts I’m looking forward to seeing are Girls, Esben and the Witch, DIRTY PROJECTORS!!! (who with Jonsi and Grizzly Bear are playing on my birthday) Spoon, Belle and Sebastian and the Maccabees. So looking forward to Dirty Projectors, ‘Bitte Orca’ is one of my favourite albums that has come out in a long time. If only Broken Social Scene were to play and I think I would be in heaven. All I hope is that the festival hasn’t become moulded too much to  shape the idea that Latitude is a ‘middle-class’ festival as many people have called it. I just hope that when i’m there the atmosphere of Latitude  sticks it being about the music, comedy , poetry, literature and good times rather than following the genre its been put into too much.

Summer however also means I have to get a job and now have no student loan to cover buying gig tickets etc. So I’ve started at work again and well I can’t wait to get my loan back, however it is nice to earn my own money. Going to save up for a new drum machine, and also maybe a mixer and some decks —>going to have a go at mixing I think. ha it could go horribly wrong.

latitude 2008

26 Jul
this year was very different from last.
i think i probably watched more poetry than music. It wasnt that the lineup was bad, i just found myself and my friends in the poetry tents watching some incredible poets – notably luke wright [ who programmed the tent].
however despite seeing more poetry than music, the bands i did see were very very good, especially sigur ros who headlined the obelisk arena on saturday. Everything about their perfomance was beautiful. I think most people felt that they should have closed the festival on sunday night instead of Intepol.  It’s not that interpol were bad at all – Sigur Ros’ perfomance just made it feel like the end of the festival.
Other bands that I found very entertaining were Howling Bells, Slow Club, Foals, Blondie, Fanfarlo, Elbow, Noah and the Whale.

Despite the great artists, musicans etc, compared to last it felt that the increased size of the festival meant that the tents were not big enough for the amount of people watching. Last year you could sit in the Sunrise arena for quite a while until it built up – this year if you wanted to see the very first acts you had to get there early or just push yourself through the packed crowd.
But like last year the atmosphere was still lovely, friendly and definately relaxing. Guilty Pleasures closing set on Saturday night in the Comedy tent was incredible and one of my highlights – those guys must one of the best jobs in the world.

latitude has finally arrived

16 Jul

well for the next few days i will be away in a hopefully sunny southwold.

im all packed and am soooo excited. its my birthday on friday as well so things really couldn’t be better.

it is though supposed to rain a bit tomorrow and i really hope it doesn’t – i don’t want to put up my tent in the rain—-guess i should stop moaning – its going to be wicked no matter what.

im taking a camera so once im back i shall write some review and post pictures.

hope you all have a good week.

see tickets

3 Jul

why is seetickets so bad at delivering tickets on time???

with two weeks to go, many people who bought tickets from see tickets for Latitude festival, have not recieved their tickets yet. Last year it was a shambles too. How come ticketmaster manages to get it right, but seetickets can’t. hmmm…

this is worrying a lot of people, I hope seetickets sorts this out quickly, and sometime this week.
